BE A HERO ! Every blood donor is a hero.
“You do not need an extreme form of sacrifice in order to become a hero. Volunteer to donate blood and you give a new lease of life to your fellow Boholanos.”
Gov. Edgar Chatto made this challenged during the mass bloodletting activity that inspired volunteer blood donors.
According to the Chatto, “this is just the beginning of similar humanitarian activities such as blood typing in the municipalities which will be implemented under the Bohol Provincial Blood Coordinating Council. This is not just to respond to emergencies but we want to make sure we have a enough safe blood for people who need it. ” he added.
Just last week, the fully organized Bohol Provincial Blood Coordinating Council held a mass bloodletting activity at the People’s Mansion. This was the first of a series of humanitarian service activities lined up by the council.
Board Member Dr. Cesar Tomas Lopez explained the mass bloodletting helps ensure adequate supply of safe blood for those in need of it.
Themed “Every blood donor is a hero,” the multi-sector effort was organized through the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH), and the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists (PAMET).
Volunteer blood donors from the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, and from Holy Name University, Bohol Island State University, University of Bohol, and Bohol Institute of Technology made history as the first donors for the first fully organized blood council in the province.
The mass bloodletting was also arranged in time for the National Blood Donors Month of July.
Very recently, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office opened its sub-office in the province, expanding its charity works through assistance in medical needs under their Individual Medical Assistance and Endowment Fund Programs, extending its social services further through provision of medicines in pharmacies outside of hospitals.
